Finally saw Punch Drunk Love....

[White Line Nightmare]

It's a unique viewing experience.

The whole time I was on edge while watching it, waiting for Barry to completely lose it and do something horrible to Lena.

It's P.T. Anderson, who is good at making unsettling films.

The fight was also one of the most satisfying I've ever seen in a movie, as was the bizarre confrontation with Philip S. Hoffman.

[Cemetery Can]

I dug it alot. It still had it's quirks and humor, yet was more down to earth and modest than his other films (never saw his first, which came before Boogie. And Magnolia was overrated, IMO).

And ya Sandler, Hoffman, and Watson were good. You start getting pulled in early on, like when Barry had his first phone scare- and dealing his annoying sister too, yeesh. Then of course you can't help root for him as it progresses.

Hoffman fans, check out Love Liza!

And here's some obscure trivia about Punch Drunk Love - during the musical interlude about half way through the film, there is a song playing with a woman singing "he needs me, he needs me, he needs me..." Well, when I saw this movie in the theater, I recognized the song right off the bat and almost fell out of my chair thinking about how crazy it was...that song is actually being sung by Shelly Duvall as Olive Oil and is lifted directly from the 70's Popeye movie starring Robin Williams [img]eek.gif[/img]

Honestly, I HATED PDL.

It wasn't surreal enough to be in the same league as "Brazil", yet characters seemed to wander around in some kind of acid-dream.

I can't watch Sandler in a movie where he's submissive, because you know that at some point in the movie he's going to go all "The price is WRONG, Bitch!!!" and freak out. So the element of surprise is gone.

to each their own, but I thought the movie was extremely "MEH...."
